I once had a Taiwanese student who was about to spend his first Christmas in a culturally Christian country. In Taiwan, Buddhism and Taoism are the two main religions, so all Christmas meant to him was Santa and presents. The Guardian, 24 decembrie

A long-awaited discussion paper on three controversial extensions to Canada’s euthanasia law has been released. It was only two-and a-half years ago, in June 2016, that Bill C-14 was passed amending the Criminal Code to legalise both euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide. Now the government is already considering expanding eligibility. LifeNews, 27 decembrie
Donald Trump recently nominated Omaha lawyer Brian Buescher to the United States District Court for Nebraska, which requires a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Buescher, who was Chair of both the Nebraska Bar Association’s Agricultural and Environmental Law Sections, and also served as a prosecutor for Douglas County and Omaha, is seemingly qualified to serve as a judge. But according to several pro-abortion senators, there’s a big problem: Buescher, a Catholic, is a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Buescher and the Knights are pro-life — which equals an “extremist” view that should evidently disqualify one from public service. Since 2012, Jeanne Mancini has been president of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, the organization behind the March for Life. During an interview with Catholic News Agency’s CNA Newsroom podcast (Episode 5), Mancini shared her thoughts on the state of the pro-life movement and hinted at plans to continue expanding the reach and impact of the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., which is the annual capstone event of the pro-life movement. With echoes of the great Civil Rights marches of the 1960s, tens of thousands of citizens from across the United States brave the freezing weather in our nation’s capital each year to demand an end to legalized abortion. Despite the constant messages from the abortion industry that women should wait to have children until it’s convenient for them, some businesses are actually helping women realize they don’t have to check their lives at the door just because they are pregnant. The Points Guy writer Angelina Aucello reports on the airline industry’s pro-family, pro-baby policies that help women have the best of both worlds. LiveActionNews, 26 decembrie
On December 20th, Irish President Michael Higgins has signed a law making abortion legal in Ireland up to 12 weeks without restrictions. Minister for Health Simon Harris placed a rush on the country to prepare for abortions to be committed January 1st. A three-day waiting period was written into the law, as was a plan to review the law in three years. No conscience protections and no restrictions on abortions for reasons of sex or disability (or anything else) survived the legislative chamber. LiveActionNews, 26 decembrie

Since 1977, abortion has been legal in the State of Israel under a set of supposedly strict conditions, and each abortion must be approved by a ghoulishly-named “termination committee.” According to the guidelines, an abortion can be procured if the woman is younger than the legal marriage age (which is 18 at present), or older than age 40; if the baby is conceived through rape, incest, or outside of marriage; if the baby has a birth defect; or if the committee decides that the woman’s life or health is at risk.
